Fresh start for youth client in Whyalla, South Australia.
Daniel, a Transition to Work client, moved to Whyalla and struggled to find employment in his preferred field as a labourer. Unemployed and struggling to find work in a new town, Daniel was referred to Workskil Australia's Transition to Work service. With assistance from his Youth Coach, Daniel looked at other employment opportunities outside of his usual trade in labouring to help him find sustainable work in Whyalla.
Our staff assessed Daniel's skills and determined that he would be well suited to a 'hands on' job and enrolled him into a Certificate III in Hospitality with the Career Employment Group. Along the way Daniel continued to express eagerness to find work and commented in how studying a Certificate III in Hospitality was the best way to get himself in to the workforce.
Daniel undertook 160 hours of work placement at a local hotel in Whyalla. Workskil Australia purchased uniforms for Daniel’s placement to ensue he could start his new career on the right foot. Daniel says that placement combined with the theory in his course gave him a stronger understanding of the hospitality field.
Daniel’s Youth Coach approached hospitality venues across Whyalla and spoke of his new skills in a hope to find him employment. Daniel was successful in gaining a position at a hotel in Whyalla and is currently working about 30 hours a week.
Daniel expresses his thanks to the Career Employment Group trainers and Workskil Australia’s Program Manager, Rebecca and his Youth Coach, Kirsty for their guidance. He says “Thanks to all these guys I am now a fully qualified hospitality worker”. Daniel has been incredibly happy since finishing the course, as it was a start to a new life for him. Daniel says, “Life is looking up, this is my start and I want to build a good foundation with hospitality and only go onwards and upwards from here”. We wish you all the best Daniel.
