This innovative program helps prisoners in South Australia prepare for employment in time for their release, with the aim of reducing the rate of reoffending.
Prisoners gain a range of practical work skills and experience in prison by working on external business contracts.
Work Ready, Release Ready (WRRR) builds on this by helping participants obtain key qualifications and licenses, and undertake accredited training.
Inmates are supported to understand what is expected in the workplace and enhance their skills, attitudes and the behaviours required to make a successful transition to work.
As an employer, you will receive:
Our vision is to help Australians who are in difficulty or disadvantage to find and keep a decent job.
We believe that work is central to a healthy and resilient society and that the community is enhanced by strong connections and social inclusion.
Sustainable employment has been identified as a key contributor to reducing reoffending. We are proud to work in conjunction with the Government of South Australia’s Department for Correctional Services on the Work Ready, Release Ready Program.
It forms part of the South Australian Government’s 10by20 Strategy, which aims to reduce reoffending in South Australia by 10% by the year 2020.
Participants from five prisons across South Australia can volunteer to take part in the program. They are: Adelaide’s Pre-Release Prison, Adelaide Women’s Prison, Mobilong, Cadell Training Centre and Port Augusta Prison.
Participant referrals are completed by the Department for Correctional Services.
