2023 Highlights and Achievements

2023 has been another jam-packed year at Workskil Australia, from the expansion of our Geared 4 Work program to the success of the Work Ready, Release Ready program, and we can't forget Joseph (pictured), who was named Achiever of the Year! We're also proud to have successfully launched a new website and Resource Hub. We are immensely proud of our customers, employers, staff, and community partners for all their achievements and hard work over the past 12 months. Here are some of the highlights.

12/12/23 Announcements

Achiever of the Year!

Well done to Joseph (pictured), who recently won Achiever of the Year at the 2023 National Employment Services Association (NESA) Awards for Excellence. This award recognises a former participant who has received employment assistance, and who has overcome extraordinary challenges to achieve employment.

Joseph's journey from homelessness to new heights is a very inspiring one that deserves this recognition!

Work Ready, Release Ready Success and Expansion

We are pleased to announce that South Australia has achieved the country’s lowest reoffending rate, surpassing the national average by 13.8%. This is a testament to the hard work the Workskil Australia team do through the Work Ready, Release Ready (WRRR) program under the leadership of the South Australian Department for Correctional Services.

Our staff support individuals in correctional services to reintegrate into the community, gain employment and ultimately lead positive and crime free lives. Securing sustainable employment particularly has a big impact on participants, creating structure, purpose and financial independence. These factors all play an integral role in reducing the risk of reoffending.

The Department for Correctional Services, who not only recognised Workskil Australia’s substantial role in this reoffending reduction, but also awarded a two-year contract extension as the exclusive provider of the WRRR program.

As part of WRRR, Workskil Australia in partnership with the Department for Corrections and Carey Training, run a pre-employment program, Road to Redemption. This program prepares Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for employment in Construction and Civil industries.

Expanding Geared 4 Work

After the successful launch in 2021 of our learning to drive program, Geared 4 Work, we were thrilled to be able to offer the service to more young people.

With the increasing cost of driving lessons, petrol and vehicles as well as limited access to transportation and supervised drivers, learning to drive can be a daunting and overwhelming task. Geared 4 Work was created to help alleviate this pressure and support our young customers in navigating their learning to drive journey.

We provide free supervised hours to help customers achieve their logbook hours and ultimately gain their Provisional licence. Obtaining a driver’s licence is not only great for our customers’ confidence and independence, but for their resume too. Having a licence opens the door to more employment and education opportunities.

Due to a high demand for this service, we were pleased to start our engines and drive the program into regional South Australia, Western Australia, and Sydney. Now with six driver mentors and more than 600 customers, Geared 4 Work is ready to accelerate your driving journey.

Focus on Housing

With the current housing market crisis and homelessness rate on the rise, securing long term accommodation is a big challenge for our customers and a major barrier to overcome in order to gain employment.

Workskil Australia is pleased to be able to support our customers through this process and has now appointed a National Housing Specialist. Our National Housing Specialist and team deliver training and educational resources to equip staff with the knowledge to navigate the complexities of finding and keeping suitable accommodation.

Workskil Australia is also actively developing a broader strategy to expand our housing support in the coming years.

Don’t forget, you can find plenty of resources to help with housing and accommodation on our Resource Hub.

Crows Kuwa Circles Graduation and Sponsorship

Congratulations to ten of our Workforce Australia - Transition to Work participants who graduated from he Kuwa Circles program, a specialist curriculum designed to encourage a greater understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) principles. The program is a collaboration between the Adelaide Crows Foundation, Stronger Smarter Institute and Workskil Australia, and provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants with a culturally safe education and training environment designed to amplify their personal development and help realise their career passion.

Our customers engaged in classroom and practical workshops underpinned by themes of connection, context, concepts and careers with mentoring by AFLW premiership player Danielle Ponter.

During the graduation, we also announced the extension of our partnership with the Adelaide Crows AFLW, with Workskil Australia continuing as a co-major sponsor through to the close of the 2024 season.

Rolling out the New Website and Resource Hub

Workskil Australia's new website and Resource Hub were launched in August. This was the final step in completing our overall brand refresh, with the website being designed to enhance the user experience through restructured content.

Revamping our online presence ensures we meet the digital expectations of audiences while maintaining our legitimacy and credibility with customers and visitors alike.

The Resource Hub is our online space for sharing information, tools and connections to community services for assisting our customers with their job search and wellbeing.

From informative articles and referrals to checklists and in-depth guides, this section of our website provides our users with a one-stop information shop.
