Workskil Australia hosted a successful day at the football for their home game event. The day featured fun activities and giveaways for fans, an event for employers to network and hear from guest speakers as well as a victory by the Adelaide Crows AFLW.
On a sunny Sunday afternoon, Unley Oval came alive as Workskil Australia hosted our annual home game event featuring the two previously undefeated Adelaide Crows and Hawthorn sides. As a dedicated co-major sponsor of the AFLW Crows, we were thrilled to be part of this community celebration and show our support for the team and fans.
The day was filled with excitement both on and off the field. Workskil Australia's team added to the pre-match energy hosting a vertical leap challenge. Fans had the chance to test their jumping skills against the impressive records set by the Crows team. Visitors were treated to a variety of Workskil Australia goodies, including footies, water bottles, clappers, and more. It was great to see so many fans reach new heights!
In addition to the on-field excitement, Workskil Australia hosted a special event for some of our valued employers at the Thomas Function Room at Unley Oval, giving guests the chance to network and watch the game from the incredible view afforded by the upgraded function space.
Function guests were given a team update from Najwa Allen, a talented midfielder for the Adelaide Crows AFLW who is currently recovering from injury. Najwa shared her experience of being named in the team's leadership group for the first time and her approach to leadership.
Nicole Dwyer, CEO of Workskil Australia, and Dan Johnson, Chief Commercial Officer of the Adelaide Football Club, also discussed the strong alignment between the organisations, highlighting our shared commitment to creating opportunity for those who may be excluded, in employment and sport respectively, as well as the importance of diversity and inclusion. It was great to hear from Dan about the evolution of the AFLW and the opportunities it’s created for women to thrive in their chosen careers, both on and off the field.
It was then time for the players to run onto the field, with some of our Workskil Australia staff making up the guard of honour to cheer them on, followed by Transition to Work customer and Crows fan, Siovhan (pictured below), who was given the honour of tossing the coin at centre bounce.
Siovhan has been with Workskil Australia for over 12 months and achieved a lot during that time. When Siovhan first met with us, she was interested in work in retail but struggled with confidence and was unsure how to begin her job search. We supported her in obtaining her Leaners license and provided coaching in job-ready skills, like the interview and job application process.
Our team encouraged Siovhan to pursue a Certificate III in Retail. Completing the course has helped her develop essential skills, meet new people, build friendships and gain the confidence she needs to succeed in her career. This newfound self-belief has allowed her to achieve remarkable things, including tossing the coin at an AFLW game in front of over 3000 fans. Well done Siovhan!
To cap off a fantastic day, the Adelaide Crows AFLW secured a convincing win over Hawthorn, extending their undefeated season. A huge thank you to the Adelaide Football Club for their support in making the day a success, as well as to all our employers and the many fans who took the time to visit our stand and show their support for the team.
