Workskil Australia joined the AFLW Adelaide Crows for a two-day community engagement event in Port Pirie. With over 1000 students and kids attending, the event aimed to inspire young people, create job opportunities, and strengthen the community.
As a long-standing partner and co-major sponsor of the AFLW Adelaide Crows, Workskil Australia continues to be committed to supporting the team and the wider community. Our partnership has been instrumental in inspiring and empowering individuals across South Australia.
Since launching our Workforce Australia general and youth services in the Mid North region in 2022, we’ve been dedicated to helping the community of Port Pirie and surrounding areas achieve their education and employment goals. To further strengthen our connection with the region, we recently joined the AFLW Adelaide Crows for a two-day community visit.
This exciting event brought together the high-profile athletes with the local community, creating a unique opportunity to inspire and connect. Over the course of the visit, the AFLW Crows team and Workskil Australia staff engaged with local schools, participated in a community clinic, and hosted a dinner to show appreciation to our local employer partners.
Our staff were thrilled to visit several schools, connecting with hundreds of students, and discussing the exciting opportunities available through our Transition to Work Program. Students were inspired by the AFLW players, who shared their personal journeys, offered valuable advice, and answered their questions.
The Community Football Clinic was a major highlight, attracting over 170 kids aged 5-15. Participants had the incredible opportunity to develop their skills under the guidance of AFLW professionals. They even got to enjoy a complimentary sausage sizzle, cooked and provided by the Workskil Australia team.
To cap off a fantastic day, the Workskil Australia team hosted an appreciation dinner for our valued employer partners. A range of local businesses enjoyed the evening as we expressed our gratitude for their ongoing support and commitment to our community. Also in attendance were Matthew Clarke (AFLW Adelaide Crows Head Coach), Stevie-Lee Thompson (Workskil Australia’s Player Ambassador), Anne Hatchard (AFLW Player), and Phill Harper (General Manager of AFLW). Together, we celebrated our partnership, recognised our incredible employers and discussed the vital role of collaboration in building a stronger community.
With over 1000 kids participating in the camp over two days, it was an incredible experience to meet and engage with so many young people. We extend our sincere gratitude to the AFLW Crows for their invaluable support, to our community partners, including Woolworths Port Pirie for their generous donation of food and drink supplies for the BBQ, and to everyone who attended and contributed to the event’s success.
This event is just the beginning of our commitment to supporting the local people and building a brighter future for the region. We look forward to continuing our work with the community and our partners to create opportunities for young people.
