Tristan's* Story

Workskil Australia - Tristan's* Story

Tristan* started in the Work Ready, Release Ready (WRRR) program at Port Augusta Prison in December 2018  while he was completing a three year sentence.

Tristan was released onto Parole in October 2019 and was required to report twice per week and complete drug and alcohol counselling. Once Tristan was released, his initial focus was re-connecting with his children, addressing previous substance abuse issues by attending drug and alcohol counselling and completing his sentence in December 2019. Tristan identified that he would need support with approaching employers, making job applications and using technology (phone, email). Tristan’s goal was to gain employment in construction. WRRR assisted Tristan with creating a new resume and with technology by teaching him how to use his smartphone, connecting it to Services Australia and job searching websites, to be able to report and job search from home. WRRR also assisted Tristan with connecting him to a Workforce Australia services provider and supporting him to be assessed at Services Australia to enable Tristan to have the most amount of assistance in gaining employment.

Once Tristan was able to settle in with his children and family and completed his substance use counselling, Tristan was ready to seek full-time employment. WRRR referred Tristan to various vacancies, such as construction, excavator roles and different production roles. Tristan had multiple options and managed to secure full time employment as a grounds person at a resort in Wilpena Pound. Tristan is living on the resort and is incredibly proud and happy with the work that he has obtained. WRRR assisted Tristan with getting petrol vouchers and work clothing such as high vis shirts, work pants and steel cap boots, which was arranged by Tristan’s Workforce Australia services provider and WRRR. Tristan also needed assistance with finding his tax file number and completing his employment forms, and WRRR assisted Tristan with this. WRRR will continue to support Tristan while he is in employment and is available to be contacted anytime if Tristan needs any assistance. Great work, Tristan!
