Home2Work

Home2Work is an innovative pilot program aimed at improving social and economic outcomes for job seekers facing homelessness. Participants access stable, affordable rentals and ongoing support to build capacities for self-reliance.

About Home2Work

Through Home2Work, a small number of eligible job seekers can lease Workskil Australia-owned homes at affordable rates for 12 to 24 months.

The one- and two-bedroom homes are available on fixed-price leases at below-market rents, focusing on those who would likely be unsuccessful with private rental applications, particularly in current market conditions.

Once settled, job seekers are supported with personal development or achieving employment. Home2Work also provides the means for tenants to develop a rental history essential for securing future housing.

Objectives and Outcomes

One in five registered job seekers experience homelessness or housing insecurity. Without stable accommodation, personal challenges can spiral and finding or keeping a job is almost always out of reach.

From 2023-24, Workskil Australia invested $8 million into purchasing 20 homes across Northern Adelaide and Southern Perth, two regions recognised as having limited availability of affordable housing.

Under the banner of Home2Work, homes are leased to job seekers facing homelessness, not as a means of turning a profit but to explore the benefits of combining housing and employment services and to see how this approach can improve participants’ outcomes.

We partner with Unity Housing and Horizon Housing Realty to manage the local property requirements, as the organisations share our mission of enhancing lives and strengthening communities.

Home2Work is understood to be the first of its kind program where an employment service provider utilises the private rental market as part of its charitable mission. We believe Home2Work has great potential and hope this pilot spurs increased investment and collaboration in medium- and long-term housing solutions.
